Intuitive Machines (LUNR) stock is surging on Tuesday as small-cap space equities stage a sector-wide rebound.
The advance follows an aggressive, month-long selloff across the peer group.
Broader market dynamics and renewed buying interest in space stocks appear to drive the move rather than any new company-specific announcement.
The Nasdaq has risen 1.21%, while the S&P 500 has gained 0.49% and the industrials sector is up 0.30%.
The Tuesday rally provides a brief reprieve from extended downward pressure on the stock. Over the past month, Intuitive Machines stock fell 22.83%. The space exploration and infrastructure stock also remains down 35.21% on a year-to-date basis.
Intuitive Machines traded 4.418 million shares by midday, versus its 100-day average volume of 8.444 million. Short interest stands at 36.402 million shares, representing 27.76% of the float, while the stock's 52-week range is $7.78 to $46.75, according to market data.
Technical Analysis
Even after Tuesday's jump, LUNR is still in a longer-term downtrend: it's trading 6.1% below its 20-day SMA, 18.8% below its 50-day SMA, 28.8% below its 100-day SMA, and 41.6% below its 200-day SMA. That stack of moving averages overhead means rallies can run into supply quickly unless the stock can start reclaiming those levels one by one.
MACD remains the key momentum check here: it's below its signal line and the histogram is negative, which points to upside pressure cooling versus the prior upswing. Put simply, when MACD is below the signal line, momentum is fading unless buyers can push price action strong enough to flip that relationship back.
The bigger-picture trend damage also matters: the 20-day SMA is below the 50-day SMA, and the 50-day SMA fell below the 200-day SMA in August (a "death cross").
The key support level is at $11.50, where buyers have previously stepped in.
LUNR Price Action: Intuitive Machines shares were up 10.83% at $11.61 at the time of publication on Tuesday, according to market data.
