Trump's Popularity Fades
The Reuters/Ipsos poll revealed that 31% of Americans approved of Trump's performance, down one percentage point from two weeks earlier.
Trump's ratings have fallen steadily from the 47% recorded the day after he was sworn in.
The survey showed Democratic congressional candidates leading Republicans 47% to 35% among registered voters. The 12-point margin represents Democrats' largest advantage in the current election cycle.
Economic concerns took center stage, with voters pointing to elevated gasoline prices. Democrats led Republicans 40% to 33% on managing the economy.
Women supported Democratic candidates by a 50% to 32% margin, making the group a significant contributor to the party's overall lead before the Nov. 3 elections.
Dems Expected to Sweep Midterms
The polling arrives as economic pressures, particularly inflation and energy costs, increasingly shape the political debate surrounding the midterms.
California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) urged Democrats to pursue decisive victories on Election Day, describing the effort as a "BLUE TSUNAMI." He said the Iran war had cost Americans an additional $120 billion in fuel expenses and called the policy a "massive wealth transfer" from consumers to oil companies.
Gasoline jumped 9.1% in September, accounting for more than half of the monthly increase. Consumer prices rose 3.7% year over year in September.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the jump in September inflation is an energy shock, not a sign of broader price pressure, and that prices will fall once the Iran conflict is over.
Polygon (CRYPTO: POL)-based Polymarket currently prices a 63% chance that the Dems take control of both the Senate and the House.
