One Pakistani National Killed, 11 Injured
In a statement released Sunday on the social media platform X, Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) confirmed that the attack resulted in the "fatality of a Pakistani resident" and injured 11 individuals, who were transferred to several hospitals for further care.
"The attack also caused property damage, the extent of which is currently being assessed," the GACA said in the statement. According to a report by Reuters on Sunday, the Saudi-led coalition forces in Yemen said an unidentified projectile had struck the Riyadh international airport's Terminal 4, causing a fire.
The report further said Saudi Arabian air defense systems had intercepted multiple missiles and a drone in multiple places across the country.
Notably, the Houthis had, last month, struck a key east-west oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia that was built to offset the uncertainty over the Strait of Hormuz following tensions between Iran and Iraq in the 1980s that caused uncertainty over the movement of oil.
Trump Weighs Intervention As Airport Attack Kills 12
The news comes as President Donald Trump said on Saturday that the U.S. could consider action against the Houthis after a Houthi-claimed strike on the Riyadh airport's Terminals 3 and 4 killed 12 people and injured over 300 others.
Among those killed were a U.S. citizen, as well as Saudi Arabian, Syrian, Palestinian nationals and citizens of Bangladesh, Jordan, Egypt and Sudan.
Tensions in the region have also resulted in global airline woes, with jet fuel prices already skyrocketing as uncertainty over the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the Russia-Ukraine war, continues to pose challenges to the global aviation industry.
