Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company (NYSE:HPE) stock fell more than 2% in Thursday's premarket trading as weaker U.S. stock futures weighed on investor sentiment. The decline came after the stock hit a new 52-week high of $73.28 on Wednesday.
Nasdaq futures declined 0.62%, while S&P 500 futures slipped 0.42%, signaling a weaker opening for Wall Street.
The stock gained about 3% Wednesday amid continued investor interest in HPE's artificial intelligence infrastructure and server business.
In a recent development, Mizuho Securities selected HPE Cray XD2000 systems for a new liquid-cooled data center designed to handle large-scale financial simulations and support future private AI deployments.
Mizuho Builds For Rising Simulation And AI Demands
Mizuho Financial Group Inc. (NYSE:MFG) subsidiary Mizuho Securities will deploy HPE Cray XD2000 systems in a new direct liquid cooling-ready data center to support more than 360 million financial calculations per day.
The infrastructure will handle derivatives pricing, market-risk and counterparty credit-risk simulations. Installation begins this fall, with production scheduled for mid-2027.
HPE said the system can deliver up to 20% more performance per kilowatt than air-cooled systems while using 15% less power. Mizuho expects 1.6 times the performance per server node versus its current environment.
The initial deployment will include eight server nodes, with further expansion planned based on production performance. Mizuho will also evaluate GPU-accelerated computing for future private AI infrastructure.
Hewlett Packard Stock Analysis
Hewlett Packard Enterprise's premarket decline appears tied to broader market weakness rather than a major company-specific development.
The decline also comes after a strong rally in Hewlett Packard Enterprise shares over the past year, raising concerns about stretched valuations and potential profit-taking.
The stock remains near its 52-week high of $73.28 despite Thursday's pullback. Its sharp rally has also pushed technical indicators into overbought territory.
As a result, investors may be taking profits as market sentiment weakens.
The stock remains in a strong uptrend despite the recent weakness. It trades 12.7% above its 20-day simple moving average (SMA) of $62.57 and 87.5% above its 200-day SMA of $37.60.
Moreover, its 20-day SMA remains above its 50-day SMA. A golden cross in April also supports the longer-term bullish trend.
However, the relative strength index (RSI) stands at 72.15, above the typical overbought threshold of 70. This suggests the stock could face further selling pressure as traders lock in gains.
The 52-week high of $73.28 represents a key resistance level. Meanwhile, the 20-day SMA of $62.57 provides potential support.
