NVIDIA Corp. (NVDA) stock traded higher by almost 1% during Tuesday's premarket session as traders lean into a steady risk tone for mega-cap tech. Nasdaq futures are up 0.13% while S&P 500 futures have shed 0.03%.

The Big Tech giant is looking beyond chip sales to unlock more value from the AI buildout by expanding financing options for customers, returning capital to shareholders, and strengthening the safety infrastructure needed for wider adoption of autonomous AI agents.

Nvidia Looks To Expand AI Financing

NVIDIA has held early discussions with insurers about structures that could reduce the risks associated with lending against its chips, the Financial Times reported Tuesday.

Under one proposal, insurers could protect lenders if smaller cloud providers default and the NVIDIA chips pledged as collateral cannot be resold for enough to cover outstanding loans.

The concept could broaden access to capital for so-called neocloud providers that are building expensive AI infrastructure without the balance-sheet strength of Microsoft Corp. (MSFT), Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL) or Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN).

CEO Jensen Huang has argued that AI chips could eventually become an "investable asset class," similar to aircraft and other costly, long-lived equipment supported by specialized financing markets.

NVIDIA has also offered to support financing structures aimed at unlocking about $500 billion from firms including Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS) and Apollo Global Management Inc. (APO). Separately, it has guaranteed $105 billion of leases connected to an OpenAI data center project.

The strategy could deepen NVIDIA's role in the AI ecosystem by helping customers finance the infrastructure needed to buy and deploy its chips. The company expects AI labs that it supports through its balance sheet to generate about 25% of revenue next year.

At the same time, NVIDIA is returning more cash to investors. The company recently increased its share-repurchase authorization by $150 billion, the largest increase in its history.

Huang Sees Safety As Key To AI Expansion

Huang believes AI can transform every industry, but he views safety as essential to widespread adoption.

He told CNBC on Monday that companies should give autonomous agents only the permissions they need, then monitor whether they follow those limits. NVIDIA developed OpenShell to contain agents and control access, while Sentry monitors their behavior.

Huang described AI safety as a "technically solvable problem" and compared NVIDIA's approach with the security boundaries browsers use to prevent downloaded applications from gaining unrestricted access.

More than 100 companies support OpenShell, including Microsoft, International Business Machines Corp. (IBM), Red Hat Inc. (RHT), Anthropic and Space Exploration Technologies Corp., he told CNBC on Monday.
