As tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to escalate, Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the U.S. cannot pressure Iran through the Strait of Hormuz without facing blowback, as tensions between Washington and Tehran escalate.

Petrodollar Ponzi, IOU Casino

In a post on X on Sunday, Ghalibaf mocked the U.S. by sharing a meme depicting a closet with plates about to fall, only being held back by the closed door. Ghalibaf's image captioned the cutlery as "global IOU casino, petrodollar ponzi, rentier sheikhdoms, Regime-change charities," and more, calling it "Schrödinger's Empire" in the post.

"The empire is in the SOH [Strait of Hormuz] cabinet with falling plates, projecting hegemony but fully exposed, trying to suffocate Iran without blowback (impossible)," Ghalibaf said.

"This endgame cannot be modeled. It will be opened, and Iran's hand is already on the lever," he said, quoting a post from HFI Research that showed JP Morgan Chase & Co. (NYSE:JPM) analysts' note about being unable to model oil amid disruptions.

The comments come as President Donald Trump was reportedly contemplating taking significant action against Tehran, with the administration in "deciding mode" about the situation in Iran. Earlier, reports emerged that Trump was contemplating taking a "big decision" about Iran.

Trump is also set to meet with state leaders from Gulf states in a bid to discuss a post-Iran war scenario. Earlier, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said that it had struck, as well as detained, a Togo-flagged tanker named Trend in the Strait of Hormuz.
