House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) took direct aim at President Donald Trump and Republicans over the cost of living, arguing their economic promises have failed to make life more affordable for everyday Americans.

Jeffries Slams Rising Costs

On Saturday, in a post on X, Jeffries wrote, "Donald Trump and Republicans promised a Golden Age. Gas prices are up. Grocery prices are up. Housing costs are up. Health insurance premiums are up."

"They have delivered nothing but a Rotten Age. And the American people know it," he added.

In a clip shared alongside the post, Jeffries said Trump and Republicans had "failed" to deliver the promised economic improvements.

"The economy is not going in the right direction. It is failing everyday Americans," Jeffries said.

He pointed to higher gas and grocery prices, interest rates, housing costs and health insurance premiums, arguing that the combination had pushed up the cost of living.

"The cost of living is out of control. America is way too expensive," Jeffries said.

He added that millions of Americans were working hard and "playing by the rules" but could not thrive and "can barely survive."

He continued, "The American people have had enough of Donald Trump and the failed Republican economy."

Democrats And Greene Criticize Trump Over Rising Costs

Former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene criticized Trump over surging fuel prices, blaming his handling of the Iran conflict and warning that higher costs could hurt the U.S. economy.

She said diesel in Central Florida was nearing $7 per gallon and regular gasoline was $4.79.

Last week, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) blamed Trump's war in Iran for rising gas prices, saying the national average had reached $4.15 per gallon, nearly $1 higher than a year earlier.

Trump had blamed the increases on the Joe Biden administration and said oil prices would fall after the conflict ended.

Detrick Warned of 'Stickier Inflation'

Carson Group Chief Market Strategist Ryan Detrick warned that the U.S. economy was facing "stickier inflation" after the August Consumer Price Index showed a 0.4% monthly increase.

He argued that rising costs across services indicated that recent price increases were not temporary or isolated.

Detrick also highlighted higher pet-care and veterinary costs, saying broad-based increases were keeping inflation elevated.
