On Friday, President Donald Trump said he plans to deploy up to $500 million from his political operation to help Republican candidates, with less than two months remaining before the 2026 midterm elections.

Trump Plans Major Midterm Spending Push
Trump told reporters that he expects to direct roughly $400 million to $500 million toward Republican House and Senate races, saying his political operation has "close to a billion dollars" available, according to CNBC.
"We're going to spend a lot of money because we don't want to lose our country," Trump said.
The pledge comes as Republican candidates in competitive races have been waiting for MAGA Inc. to unleash its sizable financial war chest. Trump said he would personally determine where the money goes, particularly toward candidates he believes have a strong chance of winning.
"I'm going to spend whatever amount of money necessary to try and help us," Trump said. "This is my money that I control."
MAGA Inc. Cash Falls Short Of Trump's Estimate
MAGA Inc.'s latest Federal Election Commission filing showed the super PAC had $403.45 million in cash on hand as of July 31 — less than half of Trump's "close to a billion dollars" estimate.
The group has spent relatively little since the start of 2025, disbursing about $21 million, including $1.7 million in independent expenditures.
Still, its cash reserves exceed those of any major party committee, according to the Associated Press.
Trump Eyes 2028 After Midterms
Trump also indicated that not all of the money would necessarily be spent this year. According to federal rules, MAGA Inc. can retain funds after the midterms for future political activity, the CNBC report added.
Elon Musk Could Boost Republicans With $100 Million
Earlier this week, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) reportedly met with billionaire Elon Musk, fueling speculation about possible financial backing for the GOP's midterm campaign.
Musk donated more than $250 million to Trump's 2024 reelection effort and, despite their 2025 fallout, his ties with conservative politics remain.
Musk is reportedly planning to spend more than $100 million on the midterms to back at least eight GOP candidates through his Super Political Action Committee, America PAC. His America PAC could also provide field organizing assistance and other campaign resources.
