When it comes to members of Congress dabbling in the stock market, Rep. Cleo Fields (D-La.) stands out—both for how often he trades and the size of his bets. His latest move suggests he's not worried about a changing of the guard at one of the world's most valuable companies.
Fields recently disclosed buying more Apple Inc. (AAPL) stock, according to a filing tracked by the MarketDash Government Trades page. The purchase, made on Aug. 13, was in the $1,000 to $15,000 range.
The timing is notable: it comes just weeks before long-time CEO Tim Cook steps down and John Ternus takes over the helm. By adding to his position, Fields appears to be betting that Apple's future is bright even without Cook at the wheel.
This isn't a one-off. Fields has bought over $1 million in Apple stock since 2025, with three purchases in 2026 and 19 in 2025. His most recent buy before this one was in May 2026, also in the $1,000 to $15,000 range. And notably, he hasn't sold a single share of Apple over the past two years.
Fields is known for his affinity for the Magnificent Seven, and his overall trading history reflects that. According to data from Quiver Quantitative, he's made 232 trades totaling $22.75 million, including $21.58 million in 2025 and $1.17 million so far in 2026. While his earlier purchases were hefty, his recent transactions have mostly been in the smaller $1,000 to $15,000 bracket.
So what does this mean for everyday investors? Fields' continued buying—even as Apple undergoes a leadership transition—could be seen as a vote of confidence. But it's worth remembering that congressional trades aren't always a signal of deep insight; sometimes they're just a bet on a company's long-term fundamentals. Either way, it's a fascinating data point as Apple enters a new era.
