Members of Congress have to disclose their stock trades, and sometimes those disclosures tell a story. The latest one from Rep. John McGuire (R-Va.) is basically a tale of two Magnificent Seven stocks: he sold one and bought another, and the timing is interesting.

Swapping Apple for Nvidia
According to a recent filing, McGuire made two trades on Aug. 18. He bought between $1,000 and $15,000 worth of Nvidia (NVDA) stock, and he sold between $1,000 and $15,000 worth of Apple (AAPL) stock.
That's a straightforward swap of one tech giant for another. But the Apple sale stands out because it happened just ahead of a big transition: John Ternus officially became CEO on Sept. 1. Whether McGuire was reacting to that or just taking profits is unclear, but the timing is notable.
McGuire sits on the House Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Information Technology and Government Innovation, so his moves in the tech sector are worth watching.
He already owned shares of both companies before these transactions. In fact, he bought Apple stock on April 15, 2026, in the same dollar range. On that day, Apple traded between $257.81 and $266.56. When he sold on Aug. 18, the stock was trading between $305.74 and $311.49.
Do the math, and that's a gain of somewhere between 14.7% and 20.8% in just over four months. Not bad. The sale could simply be about locking in those profits.
As for the Nvidia purchase, it's not his first this year. McGuire previously bought Nvidia stock on Jan. 30 and April 15, also in the $1,000 to $15,000 range. So this latest buy adds to an existing position, and it might signal where his confidence lies among the Magnificent Seven.
A Look at McGuire's Trading Pattern
McGuire has been active with Magnificent Seven stocks all year. Besides Apple and Nvidia, he's also bought Meta (META) and Microsoft (MSFT) stock in 2026.
Overall, though, he's not one of the most active traders in Congress. Since 2025, McGuire has made just 22 trades worth $176,000, according to data from Quiver Quantitative. That puts him on the lower end of the spectrum among lawmakers who buy and sell stocks.
So what's the takeaway? McGuire is trimming Apple exposure ahead of a CEO change and doubling down on Nvidia, a stock he's been accumulating all year. Whether that's a savvy move or just portfolio rebalancing, it's a glimpse into how one lawmaker is positioning himself in the tech sector.
