Celularity Inc. (CELU) had a Thursday to remember. The stock shot up more than 131% after the company revealed a U.S. manufacturing collaboration with MuseCell Innovations. Investors clearly liked what they saw.
Here's the deal: Celularity will use its facility in Florham Park, New Jersey, to produce Dezawa MuseCells for the U.S. market. The initial focus is on authenticated cell preparations made from qualified perinatal, bone marrow, or adipose materials. Celularity will use the licensed Dezawa Method and MuseCell's product specifications.
But that's just the starting point. The collaboration also covers products derived from those cells, including Dezawa MuseExosomes and Dezawa MuseSecretome. If the initial project goes well, the companies plan to expand their relationship. MuseCell estimates that the broader partnership could generate more than $300 million in purchases from Celularity over five years. Of course, that projection depends on future programs and market conditions, so it's not a done deal.
The New Jersey facility is a big part of the story. It's a 147,215-square-foot manufacturing site that supports cell therapy production, process development, quality testing, and analytical work. The expanded collaboration could also create more than 200 high-tech jobs at the facility, spanning biomanufacturing, engineering, quality control, and support functions.
Celularity isn't abandoning its own work, either. The company will continue developing its placental-derived therapies, including cenplacel-L. The MuseCell partnership just gives it another way to leverage its manufacturing capacity and cellular medicine expertise.
At the time of publication, Celularity shares were up 131.72% at $2.04, according to market data.
