NuScale Power Corporation (SMR) is getting a little AI boost. Shares of the advanced reactor developer ticked higher in premarket trading Wednesday after the company announced plans to deploy nuclear-specific AI tools to accelerate engineering and development of its small modular reactor technology.
The company is teaming up with Nuclearn and NPX on this initiative. The idea is to combine NuScale's reactor expertise with Nuclearn's AtomAssist nuclear AI platform and NPX's experience in nuclear projects and AI implementation. The tools are designed to help NuScale teams more efficiently find, understand, and apply engineering information, licensing evidence, technical standards, and institutional knowledge.
Proof of Concept Shows 80% Time Reduction
NuScale said an initial proof of concept showed that nuclear-focused AI terminology and workflows could reduce the time required to find relevant information by up to 80%. The technology also surfaced relevant engineering methods and standards while maintaining traceability to controlled engineering and licensing information. The company expects the tools to support faster decision-making as advanced reactor projects move from design into deployment.
Founded in 2007, NuScale develops advanced small modular reactor technology for carbon-free electricity generation.
SMR Technicals: Momentum Improves, Long-Term Trend Stays Weak
Despite the positive news, the stock's technical picture is a mixed bag. Shares remained above the 20-day and 50-day simple moving averages (SMAs) but below the 100-day and 200-day SMAs, signaling persistent longer-term pressure. The MACD stayed above its signal line with a positive histogram, signaling improving momentum. Still, the broader setup remained bearish, with the 20-day SMA below the 50-day SMA and the 50-day SMA below the 200-day SMA following a December 2025 "death cross."
- Key Resistance: $10.38 — near the 100-day SMA.
- Key Support: $9.29 — near the 50-day SMA.
