Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-CA) took a sharp jab at President Donald Trump on Tuesday, accusing him of cashing in on the war with Iran through his investments in oil companies.

Trump's Oil Stock Windfall
In a post on X, Warren claimed that Trump's oil-and-gas holdings have gained as much as $15.5 million in market value. "Donald Trump held millions in oil and gas company stocks at the end of 2025," Warren said, adding that "those stocks are worth as much as $15.5 million more" now.
"What happened? He started a war with Iran this year — and sent oil and gas stocks soaring," Warren wrote, linking to a Senate Joint Economic Committee – Democrats analysis. That report said Trump held "as much as $45.6 million in oil and gas stocks" at the end of 2025, which were "now worth up to $61.1 million."
The committee's analysis showed that Trump's holdings in companies like Chevron Corp (CVX), ExxonMobil Holdings Corp (XOM), ConocoPhillips (COP), Occidental Petroleum Corp (OXY) and others "went up by an average of 39 percent from January 2nd through August 17th."
Breaking Down Trump's Portfolio
Let's dig into the numbers. The analysis revealed Trump reported holding between $3,180,009 and $12,450,000 in ExxonMobil. That stock has grown 32% since January 2, pushing his estimated holdings to between $4,186,256 and $16,389,539.
Chevron was another big one. Trump held $2,595,010 to $11,350,000 in the company, and with the stock up 30% since the start of the year, his stake has surged to between $3,374,012 and $14,757,184.
Occidental Petroleum also played a role. Trump's holdings ranged from $1,017,004 to $5,083,000, and with the stock up 39% year-to-date, those are now worth between $1,416,798 and $7,081,178.
ConocoPhillips was smaller but still significant. Trump held $647,008 to $1,430,000 in the company at the end of 2025. With the stock up 32%, his stake is now between $853,489 and $1,886,358.
The Iran War Factor
This all comes against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict with Iran. Trump, after announcing economic restrictions on Iran, claimed that the Strait of Hormuz had been cleared of mines and was open for business.
But Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) isn't buying it. He questioned Trump's claims, pointing to a Truth Social post from last week where the President said the mines had been cleared.
Meanwhile, Iran has doubled down, saying that any country participating in the U.S.-led economic measures would be considered committing an act of war. Tehran has also vowed that no oil will pass through the Strait. However, recent reports suggest Iran is in talks with Oman about a temporary corridor to allow vessels to move through.
So, there you have it. A political firestorm, a war, and a president whose portfolio is riding the wave. Whether you see it as a conflict of interest or just smart investing, one thing's for sure: oil stocks are having a moment, and Trump is along for the ride.
