Wix.com Ltd. (NASDAQ:WIX) shares took a hit on Friday, falling nearly 7% as investors pulled back from growth-oriented tech names. The broader market wasn't in freefall, but it wasn't pretty either: the Nasdaq slipped 0.48%, the S&P 500 lost 0.25%, and the tech sector as a whole dropped about 0.8%. So Wix's decline was sharper than the pack, and there are a few reasons why.

Software Stocks Face Valuation Pressure
Part of the story is the ongoing saga in the software world. Reports surfaced Thursday that Silver Lake is in talks to take Workday, Inc. (NASDAQ:WDAY) private for as much as $43 billion. No one has publicly confirmed a deal yet, but the speculation alone has drawn attention to just how beaten down valuations are across the software-as-a-service industry.
Constellation Research CEO Ray Wang put it bluntly in a CNBC interview Thursday: "We're in the SaaSpocalypse. Pricing is actually undervalued. The PE ratios have come down so hard, but guess what? If you're in the SaaS business, you've got data, you've got distribution, you're still gonna win."
That's the backdrop. When a big private equity firm circles a major SaaS player, it reminds everyone that public markets have been harsh on these companies. And that can spook investors holding names like Wix, even if the company itself isn't in the crosshairs.
Aristeia Capital Exits Wix Stake
There's also some hedge fund news specific to Wix. Aristeia Capital has fully exited its investment in the company, reducing its beneficial ownership to zero shares. A Schedule 13G amendment filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday showed the fund held no Wix shares as of June 30, 2026.
That's the kind of thing that can add to selling pressure, even if the fund's exit wasn't necessarily a commentary on Wix's fundamentals. Sometimes a fund just needs to rebalance or redeploy capital. But when a notable investor walks away, it doesn't exactly boost sentiment.
Technical Analysis
On the charts, Wix has been on a nice rebound from its June low, but it's now approaching its 200-day moving average. That's a level where some investors might decide to take profits, especially after a sharp run-up.
Here's the split picture: Wix is trading 5.5% below its 200-day simple moving average of $79.16, so the long-term trend is still pointing down. But the shorter-term trends are much stronger. The stock is 24.4% above its 20-day SMA of $60.16 and 42.4% above its 50-day SMA of $52.55. That's a big gap, and it shows just how powerful the recent bounce has been.
The moving average convergence divergence (MACD) indicator is also looking more constructive. The MACD is above its signal line, and the histogram is positive, suggesting buyers have gained some control of the near-term trend. The moving averages tell a similar story: the 20-day SMA is above the 50-day SMA, which is a bullish short-term signal. But the 50-day SMA remains below the 200-day SMA, which points to a weaker longer-term setup.
Wix established a swing low in June and a swing high in August, but the stock later broke below support in August. So there's some choppiness in the price action.
Key resistance sits near $80.50, which is close to the 200-day moving average. That's the level to watch for a potential breakout. On the downside, support is around $60.50, near the 20-day moving average and a previous demand zone. If the stock can hold above that, the recent rebound has a chance to continue.
Analyst Outlook
Wall Street is still fairly bullish on Wix, with a Buy consensus rating and an average price forecast of $85.42. That's about 15% above the current price, so there's some upside potential if the stock can get back on track.
Recent analyst actions have been mixed but generally constructive. UBS maintained a Neutral rating but raised its price forecast to $66 on Aug. 5. Benchmark kept a Buy rating and bumped its forecast to $90. RBC Capital maintained a Sector Perform rating and raised its forecast to $60. So the range of targets is wide, reflecting the uncertainty in the stock's trajectory.
MarketDash Edge Rankings
Our Edge scorecard gives Wix a Momentum score of 54.45, which puts the stock in neutral territory. That reading reflects the mixed technical setup we just talked about. Wix has rebounded sharply from its lows, but it's still below an important longer-term resistance area.
The takeaway: a move above $80.50 could strengthen the bullish case, while holding above the $60.50 support area would help preserve the recent rebound. Until then, the stock is in a bit of a tug-of-war between short-term momentum and longer-term headwinds.
WIX Price Action
At the time of publication Friday, Wix shares were down 6.97% at $74.48, according to market data. That's a notable drop, but it's worth keeping in mind that the stock had been on a strong run before this pullback. Whether this is a buying opportunity or a sign of more weakness to come will depend on how it handles those key technical levels in the coming sessions.
