Clearmind Medicine Inc. (CMND) just got a big thumbs up from the folks who watch over clinical trial safety. On Thursday, the independent Data and Safety Monitoring Board unanimously cleared the company to move its FDA-regulated Phase 1/2 trial for CMND-100, a candidate aimed at treating Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD), into the next two parts.
This comes after Part A wrapped up successfully. In that initial phase, CMND-100 hit its primary safety endpoint, showing a solid safety and tolerability profile across all planned dose levels in healthy individuals. After digging through the safety data, the board gave the go-ahead to stick with the previously approved study protocol.
From Healthy Volunteers to Real Patients
Part B is a big deal for Clearmind, which focuses on non-hallucinogenic treatments for conditions like addiction and weight loss that often get overlooked. For the first time, CMND-100 will be tested on people who are actually struggling with moderate to severe AUD.
Here's the plan: researchers will enroll two groups of six patients, giving them either 80 mg or 160 mg doses. They'll be watching for safety, tolerability, and early signs that the drug works, especially whether it can cut down alcohol consumption and curb cravings.
At the same time, Part C will have healthy volunteers taking a fixed daily dose of 160 mg for five days straight. This part is double-blind and placebo-controlled, designed to get a clearer picture of the drug's safety profile.
A Different Kind of Psychedelic
CMND-100 is a proprietary oral formulation of MEAI (5-methoxy-2-aminoindane). It's a neuroplastogen-derived candidate, meaning it promotes adaptive neuroplasticity, but without the perceptual effects you'd see with classical psychedelics. That's a key advantage: it supports a scalable treatment model that doesn't require long monitored sessions or heavy clinical supervision.
As for the stock, Clearmind shares were up 9.09% at $1.80 at the time of publication on Thursday. That's a nice pop, but the stock is still trading near its 52-week low of $1.43, according to market data.
