Remember Trump Mobile? Back in June 2025, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., the sons of President Donald Trump, announced they were getting into the phone business. The pitch was straightforward: a "Made in America" smartphone, with a special gold model for just $499. It was a classic Trump-brand proposition—patriotic, premium, and priced to make a splash. Fast forward one year, and the phone hasn't launched. The original promises? They've mostly disappeared.
So, what happened? Well, the launch was delayed in 2025, partly blamed on a government shutdown by the Trump Organization. Since then, updates have trickled out, and the story has shifted. According to a report from The Verge, the Trump Mobile website has been redesigned with more prominent photos of the two Trump sons and some carefully revised language. The changes are telling: the $499 price tag is gone, the "later this year" launch wording is gone, and the phone is no longer billed as "Made in America" or even "assembled in America." Instead, it's now "shaped by American innovation." That's a subtle but significant retreat from the original marketing.
MarketDash reached out to Trump Mobile for comment. Executives from the company previously told The Verge that the $499 was just an "introductory price" and would go up with the relaunch. They said the new price would be "less than $1,000," but good luck finding any specific number on the website now. It's like the price went into witness protection.
One thing that hasn't changed is the monthly plan pricing: $47.45, a tribute to Trump being the 45th and 47th presidents. There's also a 15% discount for military members. So, the service side seems ready to go, even if the phone isn't. As for the phone itself, the T1 is still gold with an American flag on the back, but the specs have evolved. It'll run on Android from Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL) and use a Snapdragon 7 Series chipset from Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM). If you don't want the T1, you can bring your own device or buy a refurbished Apple or Samsung phone from the company. So much for that all-American hardware dream.
Where does this leave Trump Mobile? The Verge recently noted that the company received FCC clearance to launch the T1, which could mean a phone and service are inching toward reality. There's also a new trademark filing for "The 47 Plan" by the Trump Organization's parent company, covering mobile phones and plans. Josh Gerben, founder of Gerben IP, highlighted in an article that this builds on earlier June 2025 filings for trademarks like "Trump" and "T1," suggesting the launch timeline might be advancing. While the phone didn't materialize in 2025, these details hint it could happen sooner rather than later.
One big unanswered question: Will President Trump promote or comment on the launch? He's tried to keep his distance before, but a family business venture with his name on it might be hard to ignore. For now, Trump Mobile remains a promise in progress—a year-old announcement that's still waiting for its moment in the spotlight.
