Double-Header Diplomacy
A U.S. delegation featuring Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will start their morning sitting down with Iranian officials, according to Reuters, citing sources. Omani representatives will join as intermediaries, helping facilitate the indirect discussions between Washington and Tehran.
The Iran session picks up where earlier talks in Oman left off. President Donald Trump characterized those discussions as "very good," though he made clear the administration isn't rushing toward any agreement. The implication if talks fail? Trump said the consequences could be "very steep."
From Nuclear Programs to Battlefield Ceasefires
After lunch, the same U.S. team shifts gears entirely for trilateral talks with Russia and Ukraine. The goal is ending a conflict that's now stretched nearly four years, and there's a June deadline looming over everything.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has previously suggested that U.S. pressure could intensify if that deadline passes without a resolution.
Netanyahu Watches From the Sidelines
Israel isn't at the table, but it's certainly paying attention. Trump met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House earlier this week, and Israeli officials are reportedly anxious that any U.S.-Iran deal might brush aside Israel's fundamental security concerns.
It's a delicate balancing act—pursuing diplomatic breakthroughs while managing the expectations and anxieties of key regional allies.
