Anthony Scaramucci is having a complicated relationship with Donald Trump these days. The SkyBridge Capital founder and former White House communications director spent Sunday urging Congressional Republicans to abandon the president, while simultaneously cheering Trump's approach to crypto regulation. It's the political equivalent of breaking up with someone but keeping their Netflix password.

The Call for GOP Courage
In an open letter to Republican Congress members, Scaramucci didn't mince words. He accused Trump of "betraying" the nation and pointed to what he sees as troubling connections to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Trump has consistently denied any wrongdoing related to Epstein, maintaining he cut ties with him decades ago.
Scaramucci's message to Republicans was urgent: Trump is "deeply unpopular," and the midterms will prove it. "But we can't afford to wait that long. Get together and break ranks in numbers, so his lackeys can't pick you off," he warned. "Show courage and you will be remembered for it."
The Numbers Tell a Story
The polling data backs up Scaramucci's concern. A Morning Consult poll shows Trump's approval rating at 46% with 51% disapproving. The real alarm bell? Independent voters have turned sharply against him, with only 27% approving of his performance—the lowest point across both of his terms.
What voters actually want tells an interesting story too. Most prioritize affordability, lower energy prices, and deficit reduction. Issues like illegal immigration and tariffs, despite dominating headlines, ranked lower on voters' wish lists.
But About Those Crypto Policies
Here's where Scaramucci's position gets interesting. Earlier this week, he criticized Democratic leaders for failing to reach out to Elon Musk, calling it a "strategic blind spot" as the Tesla CEO drifts back toward Trump's Republican orbit ahead of the 2026 midterms.
Scaramucci has consistently lauded Trump's efforts to liberalize the cryptocurrency industry, even while remaining a harsh critic on tariffs and foreign policy. Last month, he declared the Trump administration "far better" for cryptocurrency than anything Joe Biden or Kamala Harris would deliver.
He's gone on record saying Trump's policies could be a win-win for Bitcoin (BTC) and praised the administration's progress on cryptocurrency and stablecoin legislation since taking office.
So Scaramucci wants Republicans to flee Trump politically, but he's perfectly happy to stick around for the crypto reforms. Sometimes you can have your cake and eat it too—especially if that cake is denominated in digital assets.
