Anthony Scaramucci isn't exactly known for holding back his opinions, and his latest take on crypto policy is no exception. The SkyBridge Capital founder gave the Trump administration some real credit over the weekend, saying it's been genuinely good for cryptocurrency compared to what we'd have seen from Joe Biden or Kamala Harris.

The Good Trump
In a clip from a recent interview shared on X, Scaramucci laid out his reasoning. "You've got to give credit where it's due — Donald Trump has been generally good for crypto," he said. "He saw early that championing crypto would bring capital into his campaign and into the Republican ecosystem, and it worked."
Scaramucci, who briefly served as Trump's White House Communications Director, specifically praised some key personnel decisions. The appointments of White House Crypto Czar David Sacks, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and SEC Chair Paul Atkins signal a real shift in how Washington approaches digital assets.
"For crypto, this environment is far better than what you'd get from a Joe Biden or Kamala Harris administration," Scaramucci noted.
The Bad Trump
But here's where it gets interesting. Scaramucci also called out what he termed the "good Trump" versus "bad Trump" dynamic.
"Bad Trump is rolling out meme coins hours before the inauguration. That hurt the industry. It slowed regulation and made it harder to win over Democrats," he argued.
He's referring to the Official Trump (TRUMP) token and the USD1 stablecoin launched by the Trump family. TD Cowen warned earlier this month that these ventures could actually derail progress on important cryptocurrency market structure legislation.
A Reversal From Last Year
This represents something of a shift for Scaramucci. Last May, he was actively backing the "Crypto For Harris" campaign and championing her approach to digital assets. While he remained a vocal critic of Biden-era policies under SEC Chair Gary Gensler, he compared choosing Trump to a buffet at Mar-a-Lago where you can't just pick the policies you want.
These days, Scaramucci continues to praise Trump's efforts to liberalize the crypto industry, even as he remains a harsh critic of the president on other issues like tariffs and foreign policy. It's complicated, which pretty much sums up crypto in Washington right now.
