Visa Inc. (V) announced Thursday that it's teaming up with global payments platform Mercuryo to make converting cryptocurrency into regular money significantly faster and easier. The partnership uses Visa Direct, Visa's real-time payments platform, to let eligible Mercuryo users turn their digital assets into fiat currency and have it land on their Visa debit or credit cards almost immediately.
The collaboration is basically building a bridge between the crypto world and traditional finance. Instead of waiting days for crypto sales to clear through a bank account, users can now access their funds on cards they already use for everyday purchases. The conversions happen at low cost, which matters when you're trying to make digital currencies practical for actual spending.
Visa Direct handles the heavy lifting here, supporting efficient money movement across brokerage accounts, crypto platforms, and digital banking services. By tapping into Visa's established network of wallets, exchanges, and payment systems, Mercuryo can offer these seamless conversions to millions of users within platforms they already trust.
The global reach is particularly interesting. Mercuryo can now facilitate faster cross-border payments and provide instant access to local fiat currencies using Visa Direct's worldwide network, which could help push broader Web3 adoption forward.
