President Donald Trump shared something unusual on Truth Social over the weekend: an image presenting himself as the "Acting President of Venezuela" while simultaneously holding his titles as the 45th and 47th President of the United States.

The Venezuela Post
On Sunday, Trump's Truth Social post displayed an image that listed him as both U.S. president and, more eyebrow-raising, as Venezuela's acting president with an "Incumbent: January 2026" label. The post also showed JD Vance as his U.S. vice president and noted his assumed office date as January 20, 2025.
Neither the White House nor Venezuela's Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately responded to requests for comment on the post.
Context: Maduro's Capture and Military Action
The provocative post follows Trump's announcement earlier this month that U.S. forces had captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife after what he described as a "large scale strike" in Caracas. Venezuela responded by declaring a state of emergency and mobilizing its military.
Trump hasn't been shy about suggesting additional military moves in the region. He's floated the possibility of further action in Venezuela and hinted at potential interventions in Colombia and Mexico. He also warned that Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez could face consequences "probably worse than Maduro."
The Senate, meanwhile, pushed back with a 52-47 vote to limit Trump's authority to launch new military operations in Venezuela without congressional approval. A final House override remains unlikely, though.
Trump has indicated the U.S. might maintain long-term oversight in Venezuela, potentially including control over the country's oil revenues. The developments stem from a January 3 raid in Caracas, after which Maduro and his wife were hit with federal narco-terrorism and cocaine-importation charges. Maduro continues to insist he remains Venezuela's legitimate leader.
