When a Data Entry Error Becomes Life or Death

The drama started when Doge Van, a well-known DOGE community member and dog rescuer, ran into trouble adopting Sherman from the Downey Animal Shelter in Los Angeles. The shelter canceled the adoption, citing a "clerical error" on Sherman's aggression status. Translation: someone messed up the paperwork, and now the German Shepherd might be put down for it.

Doge Van pushed back hard, insisting Sherman wasn't aggressive and that a simple data entry mistake could cost the dog his life. He called on the Dogecoin community to contact shelter officials directly and make some noise.

And they did. A day later, Doge Van announced on X that the shelter agreed to release Sherman into his care. "I'm deeply grateful to everyone who spoke up, shared his story, and showed compassion when it mattered most," he said.

The official Dogecoin X account chimed in with the win: "We did it. People power works."

The shelter didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.
