President Donald Trump went after George Clooney this week, and he didn't hold back. The target of his ire? Clooney's political activism and his recent decision to become a French citizen.
Trump took to Truth Social on Wednesday to air his grievances with the actor, who's been a vocal supporter of Democratic politicians. The president also pointed to Clooney's newly minted French citizenship, connecting it to what Trump describes as France's crime problems.
The outburst seems to be triggered by news that Clooney and his wife, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, were granted French citizenship. Trump wasted no time branding them "two of the worst political prognosticators of all time."
"Clooney got more publicity for politics than he did for his very few, and totally mediocre, movies. He wasn't a movie star at all, he was just an average guy who complained, constantly, about common sense in politics," Trump wrote.
Trump didn't stop there. He also criticized Clooney for his comments about former President Joe Biden's mental decline and threw in a reference to California Governor Gavin Newsom's potential 2028 presidential ambitions.
The verbal assault follows Clooney's recent confrontation with CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss, whom the actor accused of "dismantling CBS News."
Trump's attack on Clooney is just the latest chapter in the ongoing feud between the president and Hollywood's liberal establishment. Clooney has been one of Trump's more outspoken critics, regularly using his celebrity platform to challenge the president's policies and rhetoric.
