President Donald Trump made his pick for New York governor crystal clear on Saturday, endorsing Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman with the kind of full-throated support that tends to settle Republican primaries. In a Truth Social post, Trump declared Blakeman "MAGA all the way" and praised his longstanding loyalty.

A Full-Spectrum Endorsement
Trump didn't hold back on the specifics. He highlighted Blakeman's collaboration with ICE, Border Patrol, and law enforcement on immigration and security issues, framing the Nassau County executive as a hardliner on border policy and public safety.
"As Nassau County Executive, he is working tirelessly with the Brave Heroes of ICE, Border Patrol, and Law Enforcement to Keep Our Border SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, Safeguard our Community, and Ensure LAW AND ORDER," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Beyond immigration, Trump outlined an expansive policy agenda he expects Blakeman to champion: economic growth, tax and regulatory cuts, boosting U.S. manufacturing, advancing American energy dominance, strengthening military and veteran support, election integrity reforms, and Second Amendment protections. It's essentially the full MAGA platform transplanted to a state-level race.
The Field Clears
The timing matters. Trump's endorsement landed just after Representative Elise Stefanik announced Friday she wouldn't seek reelection to the House or continue her gubernatorial campaign. Stefanik, who serves as U.S. Ambassador to the UN, had launched her New York governor bid in November but cited family considerations and concerns about a drawn-out primary battle as reasons for stepping aside.
Her exit cleared the path considerably. New York Republican Committee chair Ed Cox quickly followed Trump's lead, endorsing Blakeman after Stefanik's withdrawal.
Blakeman, who secured reelection as Nassau County Executive in 2025, now sets his sights on the 2026 general election showdown against Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul. With Trump's backing and a consolidating Republican field, the battle lines for New York's gubernatorial race are taking shape.
