The program is now advancing toward low-rate initial production, which is military-speak for ramping up manufacturing in a controlled way before going full throttle. Both companies are gearing up for higher-volume production starting in 2026, with final validation work almost done and approved hardware deliveries to government customers expected to kick off early next year.
According to company leadership, this collaboration strengthens U.S.-based defense manufacturing and establishes Vuzix as a key supplier to Collins Aerospace's advanced vision systems. CEO Paul Travers noted that the effort reflects growing demand for deployable AR solutions as defense agencies shift from research projects to operational deployment.
And it's not just military contracts driving things forward. Vuzix recently secured a significant smart-glasses agreement with a global retailer, showing the technology has legs beyond defense applications.
