Apple Inc. (AAPL) just wrapped up a record-setting fourth quarter and is forecasting even better results ahead. But while the iPhone 17 is driving current success, the company is apparently thinking much bigger for the years to come.

According to a report from The Information, Apple has eight new iPhone models in development for 2026 and 2027. This isn't just the usual annual refresh cycle. We're talking about a foldable iPhone, a 20th anniversary special edition, and a revamped product strategy that could reshape the iPhone lineup entirely.

The Full Lineup: Eight Models Coming Over Two Years

The e-series models (iPhone 17e and 18e) would expand Apple's budget-friendly lineup, following the current iPhone 16e as more affordable options. Interestingly, the release schedule suggests Apple might launch the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max in Fall 2026, with the base iPhone 18 arriving about six months later in Spring 2027. That's a departure from the typical simultaneous launch strategy.

The star of the show, though, is the iPhone Fold. This would be Apple's first foldable device, arriving fashionably late to a market where competitors have already released multiple generations. The tentative Fall 2026 release date makes this one of the company's most anticipated future products.

And then there's the iPhone 20, slated for Fall 2027. This special edition would commemorate the 20th anniversary of the original iPhone, which Steve Jobs unveiled in January 2007. Twenty years later, the device that revolutionized the smartphone industry is still Apple's biggest revenue driver.

Why This Matters: iPhone Revenue Drives Everything

The iPhone isn't just important to Apple. It's essentially half the company. In fiscal 2025, iPhone revenue hit $209.6 billion out of $416.2 billion in total revenue, representing 50.4% of the business.

Here's how iPhone revenue has performed recently:

• 2022: $205.5 billion, up 7% year-over-year
• 2023: $200.6 billion, down 0.2% year-over-year
• 2024: $201.2 billion, up 0.3% year-over-year

After two years of essentially flat growth, the iPhone 17 helped deliver a meaningful 4% increase in fiscal 2025. That momentum is continuing into the current quarter.

CEO Tim Cook is clearly bullish about what's coming. "We are incredibly excited about the strength we're seeing across our products and services, and we expect the December quarter's revenue to be the best ever for the company and the best ever for iPhone," Cook said on the recent earnings call.

CFO Kevin Parekh got more specific with the numbers. "From today, we expect our December quarter total company revenue to grow by 10% to 12% year-over-year, which would be our best quarter ever," Parekh explained. He added that this would also be "our best iPhone quarter ever," with iPhone revenue expected to grow by double digits year-over-year.

To put that in context: iPhone revenue was $69.14 billion in Q1 of last year. A 10% growth rate would push that to at least $76.06 billion this quarter.

Looking Ahead

While the iPhone 17 is setting records right now, investors are already looking toward the next wave of devices. The reported lineup of eight new models through 2027 suggests Apple is planning a more aggressive product strategy than we've seen in recent years.

Multiple budget options, staggered release schedules, a foldable device, and a special anniversary edition all point to Apple trying to capture different segments of the market more effectively. If executed well, this expanded lineup could help the company maintain and accelerate iPhone revenue growth over the next several years.

Apple stock is trading at elevated levels, but with this kind of product pipeline reportedly in the works, the company is clearly betting big on the iPhone remaining its flagship product and primary growth driver well into the next decade.
