When a CEO who's used ChatGPT every single day for three years announces he's switching teams, that's the kind of thing that gets attention in the AI world.
Salesforce (CRM) CEO Marc Benioff did exactly that in a Nov. 23 post on X, declaring his allegiance to Google's latest AI model after just two hours of testing.
"I've used ChatGPT every day for 3 years," Benioff wrote. "Just spent 2 hours on Gemini 3. I'm not going back."
According to Benioff, Google's AI model outperforms ChatGPT when it comes to "reasoning, speed, images, video." He described Gemini 3 as "sharper and faster," adding that "It feels like the world just changed, again."
Why This Endorsement Carries Weight
Benioff isn't just another tech executive sharing his hot takes on social media. His opinion carries particular weight in the race for AI dominance. Salesforce uses Google and Nvidia (NVDA) chips to power its proprietary AI models, and its programs integrate with both ChatGPT and Google Gemini.
His public switch also underscores just how volatile the AI landscape has become. What seemed like OpenAI's unshakeable lead is suddenly looking more precarious.
According to media reports, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently declared a "code red" to improve ChatGPT after Google began overtaking the longtime industry leader on several benchmarks. That's a remarkable reversal for a company that's been synonymous with cutting-edge AI for the past few years.

Altman himself acknowledged Google's achievement, congratulating the company on its latest launch and saying on X that Gemini 3 "Looks like a great model."
Former Tesla (TSLA) AI director Andrej Karpathy offered a more measured but still positive assessment. He cautioned that people should "go talk to the model" rather than relying entirely on public benchmarks, which "can be quite possible to game." Still, he said he had a "positive early impression."
"Very solid daily driver potential," Karpathy wrote, calling it "clearly a tier 1 LLM."
The AI race isn't over by any stretch, but Google's momentum suggests the competitive landscape is more dynamic than many anticipated. For users who've grown comfortable with ChatGPT as their default AI assistant, Benioff's dramatic switch might be worth considering.
