Alibaba Group Holding Limited (BABA) shares climbed Monday after the e-commerce giant announced impressive adoption numbers for its latest AI venture.
The Download Milestone
Alibaba's Qianwen app—an AI assistant the company describes as a "smart personal assistant that not only chats but gets things done"—reached 10 million downloads within just one week of its public beta launch. The app is currently available exclusively to users in China.
What It Actually Does
Qianwen uses conversational AI to deliver capabilities that go beyond basic chatbot functions. The app handles deep research, AI-assisted coding, AI-powered camera features, and voice calls. Perhaps most impressively, Alibaba claims it can generate a complete research report and automatically produce a polished, multi-slide PowerPoint presentation in seconds.
The Bigger Picture
The Qianwen app represents a tangible output from Alibaba's enormous $53 billion initiative focused on AI and cloud computing infrastructure, development of foundational models and AI-native applications, and integrating AI capabilities across its existing business operations.
Shares of Alibaba were up 5.16% and trading at $160.83 at the time of publication.
