Toast Inc. (TOST) dropped its third-quarter fiscal 2026 results after Tuesday's closing bell, and the numbers were, by most measures, pretty good. The stock fell anyway. Such is life when you pair a beat with a leadership shakeup.

What Toast Actually Reported
Toast earned 29 cents per share for the quarter, clearing the 26-cent consensus estimate. Revenue came in at $1.98 billion, edging past the Street's $1.97 billion forecast.
Then there's the transition: President and CFO Elena Gomez is stepping down, and Senior Vice President of Finance Michael Senno will take over as CFO effective Jan. 1, 2027.
The company also put up some genuinely strong operating metrics:
- ARR increased 24% to $2.5 billion as of Sept. 30, 2026.
- Total Locations increased 21% to approximately 189,000.
- Gross Payment Volume (GPV) increased 20% to $61.8 billion.
- Subscription services and financial technology solutions gross profit grew 29% to $630 million. Non-GAAP subscription services and financial technology solutions gross profit grew 27% to $642 million.
- Operating income was $165 million in third-quarter 2026 compared to $84 million in third-quarter 2025.
The CEO's Take
CEO Aman Narang framed the quarter around recurring revenue and margin expansion, and he had the numbers to back it up.
“We had another strong quarter: recurring gross profit streams1 grew 27%, GAAP Operating Income margin2 expanded to 26% and we added approximately 8,500 net locations,” Narang said.
He also pointed to the company's product push: “With our Fall Release, we expanded Toast IQ Grow and launched Toast IQ Team, moving Toast beyond tools that help operators run their business toward agents that take on the work for them.”
Why the Stock Slipped
Despite the beat, Toast stock was down 5.22% to $31.78 in Tuesday's extended trading. Investors apparently had their eye on the CFO change, or perhaps they just wanted more. Either way, the market's reaction tells you something about how high the bar has gotten for restaurant-tech names that keep posting 20%-plus growth across the board.
