Anthropic's employee-funded political action committee (PAC) spent more than $255,000 during the third quarter, dividing its contributions almost evenly between Republican and Democratic campaigns.
AnthroPAC directed about $130,000 to Republican campaigns and $125,500 to Democratic campaigns as midterm elections approach, The Hill reported.
The spending included contributions to Senate campaign committees and affiliated political action committees. Republicans received 50.6% of the quarterly donations, while Democrats received 49.4%.
September accounted for approximately $161,000 of AnthroPAC's spending, compared with about $77,000 in August and $17,500 in July, according to the report.
Anthropic launched the PAC in April. A bipartisan board oversees the group. Federal law caps individual contributions at $5,000 annually and requires donations to be disclosed through Federal Election Commission filings.

Anthropic Faces Rising Political and Regulatory Risks
The spending comes as Anthropic faces a more complicated political and regulatory environment.
Earlier this month, Anthropic warned in its IPO prospectus that shifting U.S. government policies toward AI could disrupt business, hurt its reputation and cause revenue losses. The company cited federal restrictions, a Pentagon supply-chain risk designation and export controls, warning similar actions could recur. Government contracts account for less than 1% of annual revenue. Anthropic also acknowledged that advanced AI could pose catastrophic or existential risks to humanity.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump appeared to soften his stance toward Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei after a recent meeting, telling Time that Amodei made a better impression on him than before.
Last month, the Federal Trade Commission opened an investigation into major AI developers, including Anthropic. The probe is examining whether AI agents could create risks for consumers. The agency plans to issue compulsory information requests and seek testimony from leaders at Anthropic, OpenAI, and research group METR, following incidents that drew public attention in July.
