Alibaba Launches New Qwen Glasses And Earbuds
Alibaba's Qwen AI unit launched the Qwen Glasses N1 series and Qwen Clip earbuds, developed in collaboration with Bose.
The N1 glasses include a 50-megapixel camera and support continuous environmental awareness, translation, meeting summaries and voice services.
The N1 Pro adds real-time monitoring of heart rate, blood oxygen and skin temperature, along with eye tracking and iris identity verification, Yicai Global reported on Wednesday.
Alibaba also said the glasses support shopping, payments and health tracking. Users can interact with the AI agent through bone-conduction microphones.
The glasses offer up to 25 hours of standby time or nine hours of music playback per charge. The Qwen Clip earbuds support multilingual translation, live AI dictation and task assignment.
Meta Emerges As Key Smart-Glasses Rival
Alibaba is following a strategy similar to Meta Platforms Inc. (META), which has also positioned smart glasses as an entry point for AI assistants.
Bloomberg on Tuesday described Meta as the industry leader in the category. Meta recently expanded its lineup with a $349 camera-free model built primarily around its Muse AI assistant.
Alibaba's new glasses start at 2,999 yuan, or about $450, before discounts, while the Pro version costs 3,499 yuan.
That pricing puts Alibaba in direct competition with Meta on features and quality rather than relying only on lower prices.
Qwen Targets A Broader Personal Agent Role
“The goal of Qwen is to become everyone’s Personal Agent,” Qwen Vice President Song Gang said. “We believe that AI wearables are an extension of Qwen in the physical world and an important part of Personal Agents.”
Alibaba wants the devices to move AI beyond simply responding to commands and toward helping users complete tasks more proactively.
An industry insider told Yicai that Alibaba is shifting competition away from standalone hardware specifications toward what AI agents can understand and execute.
By linking the glasses with Qwen models and Alibaba's broader ecosystem, the company wants its AI to understand a user's surroundings and access relevant services.
Alibaba Builds A Full-Stack AI Strategy
Alibaba CEO Eddie Wu has reiterated the company's ambition to build across the full AI stack, spanning models, chatbot applications, AI chips, data centers and consumer hardware.
The company's wearables therefore represent another layer of a broader strategy to connect AI infrastructure with end-user products and services.
BABA Price Action: Alibaba shares were up 0.06% at $110.91 at the time of publication on Wednesday, according to market data.
