Sandisk Corporation (SNDK) stock fell nearly 3% in Wednesday's premarket trading, extending its decline as concerns over Chinese competition and the sustainability of AI-driven memory demand weighed on investor sentiment.
S&P 500 futures rose 0.19%, while Nasdaq futures slipped 0.06%.
Sandisk's weakness comes amid a broader selloff in memory-chip stocks. The stock has also slipped below key short-term moving averages, signaling fading momentum after its sharp rally over the past year.
Meanwhile, CNBC's Jim Cramer warned that weakness in South Korean memory-chip giant SK hynix Inc. (SKHY) is spilling over into U.S. semiconductor stocks.
Technical Analysis
Sandisk remains in a long-term uptrend despite recent weakness. Shares are trading about 21% above their 200-day simple moving average (SMA) of $1,193.90.
However, the stock is 14.6% below its 20-day SMA of $1,691.80 and 9.2% below its 50-day SMA of $1,591.84.
Meanwhile, the moving average convergence divergence (MACD) indicator remains below its signal line. The negative histogram also points to weakening bullish momentum.
Still, the 20-day SMA remains above the 50-day SMA, which is above the 200-day SMA. This alignment suggests the broader uptrend remains intact.
- Key Resistance: $1696.50 — a nearby ceiling that lines up closely with the 20-day SMA area, where countertrend bounces can fade
- Key Support: $1416.50 — a nearby floor just under current price that marks a recent area where buyers previously stepped in
Sandisk has gained approximately 1,064.53% over the past 12 months, leaving shares vulnerable to profit-taking after their substantial rally.

MarketDash Edge Rankings
Sandisk's MarketDash Edge Rankings highlight a sharp contrast between momentum and valuation.
The stock has a Momentum score of 99.83, reflecting strong longer-term performance. However, its Value score of 13.01 suggests the shares remain expensive relative to other stocks.
This combination could leave Sandisk vulnerable to further selling if momentum continues to weaken.

The Schwab U.S. Small-Cap ETF (SCHA) holds a 5.15% weighting in the stock, while the Invesco S&P 500 Pure Growth ETF (RPG) and First Trust U.S. Equity Opportunities ETF (FPX) have weightings of 8.38% and 8.82%, respectively.
