Former Vice President Kamala Harris is not mincing words about the state of the American wallet. In a Tuesday post on X, she went after President Donald Trump over rising living costs and the ongoing war in Iran, arguing that everyday families are getting squeezed from every direction while Democrats position themselves to retake Congress in the November midterm elections.

Harris Says Americans Are Tired of Choosing Between Gas and Groceries
Harris painted a blunt picture of household finances, saying Americans are struggling to afford basic necessities like gasoline, groceries, rent, child care and health care, even as their paychecks fail to keep pace with rising expenses.
"People are tired of having to choose between gas and groceries," Harris wrote, blaming Trump's war in Iran for adding to the financial pressure on households.
She also accused the president of dishonesty and harsh leadership, saying voters were ready to challenge his administration.
Harris urged Americans to elect leaders who could serve as a check on what she described as Trump's "callous, corrupt, and incompetent administration."
Trump's Approval Rating Falls As Democrats Eye Congress
Trump's declining popularity could open the door for Democrats ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections, which will determine control of the House of Representatives and Senate for the remainder of his presidency.
According to polling figures cited by the BBC from Silver Bulletin, Trump's approval rating has dropped from just above 50% at the beginning of his second term to approximately 37%.
The report said his rating was around 42% when the U.S. and Israel launched airstrikes against Iran in late February, before falling below 40% shortly afterward.
Republicans currently hold a narrow House majority, making the chamber especially vulnerable to shifts in voter sentiment. All 435 House seats are up for election, while 35 Senate seats are being contested.
Iran War, Health Care Costs Weigh on GOP Prospects
The conflict with Iran has disrupted energy supplies and contributed to higher gasoline prices, undermining Trump's campaign pledge to make America more affordable.
Trump touted gas prices below $2.30 a gallon on Feb. 24, but they climbed to around $4 after the Iran war disrupted Middle Eastern energy supplies, the report said.
An August poll found that 63% of respondents disapproved of Trump's handling of the conflict.
Democrats are also highlighting rising health insurance costs and concerns about access to health care, while immigration remains a central issue for both parties.
