MercadoLibre, Inc. (MELI) stock is trading about 6% higher during Monday's premarket session as investors assess the results of Brazil's first-round presidential election.
According to reports, the market seems to be favoring far-right candidate Flavio Bolsonaro on account of promises of more fiscal discipline, highlighted by many economists in Brazil as the need of the hour. Debt-to-GDP stands at 81.9%, up 10% since Lula took office, according to CNBC.
Brazil generated $15.2 billion of MercadoLibre's $28.9 billion in net revenues and financial income in 2025, according to its annual report. That represents about 52.6% of the total, making Brazil its largest market by that measure.
The exposure makes Brazil's economic outlook particularly relevant to MercadoLibre's e-commerce and financial services businesses.
MercadoLibre said in March that it planned to invest 57 billion reais, or about $10.9 billion, in Brazil during 2026, Reuters reported. The planned amount was 50% above 2025 levels and includes some operating costs and expenses.
The spending targets logistics expansion, improvements to its marketplace and growth in Mercado Pago's credit portfolio. The company also planned to open 14 fulfillment centers, bringing its Brazilian total to 42.
The scale of that commitment helps explain why Brazil's outlook matters to investors.
MercadoLibre stock is pushing higher after spending recent weeks below key long-term trend levels. The premarket move has lifted the stock toward near-term moving-average resistance. Buyers have also defended a nearby support zone.
With major index futures pointing lower, the strength appears more stock-specific than part of a broader risk-on move. The next test is whether MercadoLibre can reclaim the trend levels that have capped recent rallies.
MercadoLibre remains in a mixed technical setup.
The stock has fallen 21.24% over the past 12 months. It is trading about 2.4% below its 200-day simple moving average and 3.6% below its 50-day SMA.
However, MercadoLibre is about 0.9% above its 100-day SMA. That suggests buyers are still defending an important intermediate trend level.
The moving averages also point to conflicting signals. The 20-day SMA is below the 50-day SMA, which reflects weaker short-term momentum.
However, the 50-day SMA remains above the 200-day SMA following a golden cross in September.
Momentum remains another area to watch. The MACD is below its signal line, while the histogram is negative. That suggests bullish momentum has weakened.
A sustained move above the 50-day and 200-day averages could strengthen the technical setup.
MercadoLibre is expected to report its next quarterly results on Oct. 28.
Analysts estimate earnings of $9.49 per share, compared with $8.32 per share a year earlier.
Revenue is expected to reach $10.27 billion, up from $7.41 billion in the year-ago period.
The stock trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of about 46.2, reflecting a premium valuation.
MercadoLibre carries a Buy consensus rating and an average price forecast of $2,253.33. Recent analyst actions include:
The MarketDash Edge scorecard highlights MercadoLibre's strong growth profile but weaker momentum.
The Verdict: MercadoLibre's Edge scores point to a growth-heavy profile paired with weak near-term momentum. Bulls will be watching whether Monday's rebound can push the stock back above its 50-day and 200-day moving averages.
Because MercadoLibre has sizable exposure in these funds, ETF inflows and outflows can contribute to buying or selling pressure in the stock.
MELI Stock Price Activity: MercadoLibre shares were up 5.58% at $1,791.20 during Monday's premarket session, according to market data.
