Nvidia Corporation (NVDA) and Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) are reportedly lobbying the Trump administration to halt potential restrictions on their exports to China.
The companies have intensified their efforts to engage with administration officials in recent weeks. They have reached out to the White House and senior members of the Commerce Department, according to a Politico report on Tuesday.
Last week, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and AMD's CEO Lisa Su joined President Donald Trump at the head table during the state dinner honoring Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The firms are urging the administration to discourage lawmakers from including China-related chip export restrictions in the annual defense policy bill, as per the report. This bill, which enjoys bipartisan support, is seen as crucial, with backing from leading Republicans.
Nvidia, AMD and the White House did not immediately respond to MarketDash's request for comments.
Warren Slams Trump Over Nvidia Ties
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) called for halting Nvidia's sales of advanced chips to China and argued that lobbying efforts by chipmakers could influence lawmakers' decision on export restrictions, the report added. She also criticized the Trump administration's approach to Nvidia and China.
"Donald Trump seems to want to do business with Nvidia, regardless of what it does to our country," Warren said.
Nvidia Chips Get Limited China Access
The news of lobbying efforts comes in the wake of a Sunday report that saw China considering allowing companies, including ByteDance and Alibaba Group Holdings (BABA), to buy Nvidia's high-end RTX PRO 5500 chips. Beijing reportedly told some companies it plans to approve the purchases, while industry executives expect the RTX PRO 5500 to remain outside U.S. export controls.
In August, reportedly limited batches of Nvidia's powerful H200 AI chips were approved for shipment into mainland China, signaling a limited easing of restrictions on the advanced chips. However, the older-generation processors trail its latest Blackwell chips. Nvidia's China-related revenue also fell to $4.55 billion in the first quarter from $9.66 billion a year earlier.
Price Action: On a year-to-date basis, shares of Nvidia and AMD surged 22.71% and 183.84%, respectively, as per market data.
