Atlas Energy Solutions Inc. (NYSE: AESI) stock jumped Friday after the company announced equipment-purchase and cost-reimbursement agreements tied to AI data center projects.
The deals extend Atlas' expansion beyond its traditional proppant and logistics business into private power infrastructure.
AI Customer Backs Equipment Purchases
Two Atlas subsidiaries signed cost reimbursement agreements with a leading frontier AI lab covering long-lead-time infrastructure and additional power-generation equipment.
One agreement covers balance-of-plant equipment supporting existing generator orders under Atlas' Global Framework Agreement, or GFA, with Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT), including emissions controls, electrical distribution systems and battery energy storage.
A second agreement covers 283 megawatts of additional Caterpillar generation equipment for a separate data center project.
Atlas also signed a purchase agreement for 328 megawatts of generating capacity, to be delivered in 2027, under the GFA.
Latest Deals Build On Power Strategy
The announcement follows Atlas' earlier moves into power generation.
In March, the company secured roughly 1.4 gigawatts of additional Caterpillar generation capacity under an approximately $840 million framework agreement.
Atlas followed in April with a five-year power purchase agreement covering 120 megawatts.
President and CEO John Turner said the latest arrangements are intended to reduce supply-chain and project timing risks.
“This customer's willingness to enter into cost reimbursement agreements is a clear sign of commitment to these projects as we work together toward the execution of long-term power purchase agreements,” Turner said.
AESI Technical Setup Remains Mixed
Friday's rally improved AESI's near-term technical picture, though the broader trend remains mixed.
RSI stands at 49.90, a neutral reading that suggests the stock is neither overbought nor oversold despite Friday's sharp advance.
The stock is above its 50-day SMA but remains below its 100-day and 200-day SMAs. That points to an early rebound within a still-weaker intermediate trend.
Resistance remains near $14.50, while support sits around $11.
Analyst Outlook
The stock carries a Hold consensus rating and an average price target of $17.57.
Recent target reductions help frame that cautious consensus. Citigroup maintained Buy and cut its target to $17 on Sept. 3, Piper Sandler maintained Neutral and lowered its target to $15 on Aug. 27, and Barclays maintained Underweight while cutting its target to $10 on Aug. 7.
