Analysts See a Bigger AI Opportunity Than Marvell Does
Bank of America analyst Vivek Arya recently said Marvell may be underestimating its artificial intelligence opportunity following meetings with CEO Matt Murphy and CFO Dan Durn.
Arya estimates the custom AI chip and related components market could reach about $300 billion by 2030. He also sees Marvell's "XPU attach" business as a major opportunity, with the company supplying all four major U.S. cloud providers.
Bank of America estimates Marvell could capture about $30 billion of a potential $60 billion to $65 billion XPU attach market by 2030. Arya reiterated a Buy rating and $365 price forecast, calling Marvell his favorite AI networking stock.
Meanwhile, Piper Sandler initiated coverage on Sept. 10 with an Overweight rating and a $270 price forecast, citing surging demand for AI infrastructure. The firm expects rising compute demand and hyperscaler spending to support Marvell's growth.
Investors will next watch Marvell's Oct. 6 analyst day for updates on its market opportunity, margins and earnings outlook.
The Charts Still Look Bullish
Marvell remains well above its major moving averages.
The stock is trading about 10.5% above its 20-day simple moving average, 16.9% above its 50-day SMA and 58.4% above its 200-day SMA. That keeps the intermediate- and long-term trends bullish.
The 50-day SMA also remains above the 200-day SMA. The stock formed that bullish "golden cross" in October 2025.
Momentum also remains positive. Marvell's MACD is above its signal line, while the histogram is positive. That suggests momentum remains supportive despite Thursday's decline.
Key levels include resistance near $300 and support around $244.
Data Center Exposure Is the Whole Story
Marvell is a fabless semiconductor company focused heavily on wired networking.
Its products include processors, optical and copper transceivers, switches, and storage controllers. The company serves data center, carrier, enterprise, and consumer markets.
That exposure makes Marvell sensitive to data center spending and networking investment. Strong demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure can support the stock, while weaker technology sentiment can pressure shares.
What the Analysts Are Saying
Marvell trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of about 86.4, reflecting a premium valuation. The stock carries a Buy consensus rating with an average price forecast of $295.12.
Recent analyst actions include Seaport Global initiating coverage with a Buy rating and a $270 price forecast on Sept. 23. Morgan Stanley maintained an Equal-Weight rating and raised its price forecast to $268 on Sept. 21. Piper Sandler initiated coverage with an Overweight rating and a $270 price forecast on Sept. 10.
Growth and Momentum, Meet Valuation
The MarketDash Edge scorecard highlights Marvell's strong growth and momentum alongside a weak value score.
Marvell has a Momentum score of 98.93 and a Growth score of 99.57. Its Value score stands at just 1.79.
Together, these scores reflect a stock with strong growth expectations and price momentum, but also a valuation that leaves less room for disappointment.
