Dell Technologies Inc. (NYSE: DELL) stock is surging on Wednesday, building on the momentum from Tuesday's session.
The move follows a rise of about 3% on Tuesday, when the stock rebounded after falling nearly 6% in the Monday session.
Nasdaq futures are up 0.77% while S&P 500 futures have gained 0.28%.
AI Safety Debate Drives Volatility
Monday's sell-off followed calls from leaders at major artificial intelligence companies, including Anthropic and OpenAI, to slow advanced AI development over safety concerns.
The debate fueled concerns that slower AI investment could eventually hurt demand for chips and data center hardware.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump pushed back against those concerns, according to reports. Trump highlighted AI and data centers as important economic drivers and stressed the need to compete with China.
Analyst Recommendations
Dell carries a Buy consensus rating with an average price forecast of $559. RBC Capital initiated coverage with an Outperform rating and a $640 price forecast on Sept. 10.
Evercore ISI maintained Outperform and raised its forecast to $650 on Sept. 9. Citigroup maintained Buy and lifted its forecast to $600 on Sept. 2.
Technical Analysis
Dell is still in a clear uptrend across timeframes, with the stock trading 13.4% above its 20-day SMA ($484.73) and 106.7% above its 200-day SMA ($265.88). That kind of separation typically signals strong demand, but it also raises the odds of sharper pullbacks if buyers pause.
The 20-day SMA remains above the 50-day SMA (bullish), and the golden cross that occurred in March (50-day SMA above the 200-day SMA) continues to reinforce the longer-term uptrend.
The most immediate "line in the sand" is whether the stock can hold above its short-term trend gauges (the 20-day SMA/EMA area) if the premarket strength fades after the open. On the upside, traders will often treat the 52-week high area as the next test, since breakouts can trigger follow-through while failures can spark quick profit-taking.
- Key Resistance: $568.67 — the 52-week high zone that sits just above current price and often acts as a breakout trigger
- Key Support: $484.73 — the 20-day SMA area, a nearby trend support level after the recent run
DELL Price Action: Dell Technologies shares were up 4.87% at $570.00 at the time of publication on Wednesday. The stock is trading at a new 52-week high, according to market data.
