Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) delivered sharp criticism of President Donald Trump and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) after the agency announced it was rescinding emission limitations on fossil fuel power plants.

Gavin Newsom Says California Will Fight EPA in Court

In a post on X on Tuesday, the California Governor slammed the decision to repeal emissions standards, saying that Trump's EPA had 'tore up' pollution limitations on 'dirty coal and gas plants' in a bid to 'let his fossil fuel campaign donors pollute the air we breathe even more.'

Newsom added that 'California will keep fighting for our right to live clean and affordable lives,' and pointed to litigation over the EPA's decision. 'See you in court,' Newsom said in his post.

The California Attorney General's Office did not immediately respond to MarketDash's request for comment.

Newsom had earlier criticized Trump after court filings appeared to show that the White House cut $7.5 billion worth of clean energy grants based on whether states backed Trump or former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 Presidential Election, a claim the Department of Energy (DOE) denied.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta had issued an intent to sue to the Trump administration in June, accusing the White House of deliberately slowing down clean energy efforts like offshore wind farms. The Trump administration was also sued by New York Attorney General Letitia James in June over offshore wind leases.

Bernie Sanders Blasts Trump Over EPA Order

Newsom is not the only lawmaker who slammed the order, with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) accusing Trump of giving his 'Big Oil billionaire friends' handouts as the world reports extreme climate conditions that break previous records. EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, meanwhile, said the measure would make energy more affordable for Americans.
