AstraZeneca Plc (AZN) dropped a pile of oncology updates on investors, and the market's reaction was a shrug upward. The company reported updated clinical outcomes across its oncology portfolio, showing sustained long-term survival advantages in lung cancer treatments alongside mixed findings in advanced breast cancer research.

Long-Term Survival Gains In Early-Stage Lung Cancer
Eight-year follow-up data released on Monday from the ADAURA Phase 3 trial revealed that adjuvant Tagrisso lowered the risk of death by 47% in the primary population and 48% in the overall early-stage EGFR-mutated non-small cell lung cancer group following complete tumor resection.
An estimated 79% of overall trial patients receiving Tagrisso remained alive at eight years, compared to 64% on placebo.
Real-world data presented at the IASLC 2026 World Conference on Lung Cancer showed stopping Tagrisso before completing the three-year course more than doubled the risk of disease recurrence or death.
In advanced settings, FLAURA2 trial data reinforced benefits of combining Tagrisso with chemotherapy, displaying consistent long-term safety.
Combination Therapies Show Advanced Disease Efficacy
On Monday, Phase 3 DESTINY-Lung04 trial results presented by Daiichi Sankyo showed Enhertu reduced the risk of disease progression or death by 37% versus standard pembrolizumab plus chemotherapy as a first-line treatment for HER2-mutant non-small cell lung cancer.
Enhertu achieved a median progression-free survival of 14.3 months compared to 8.3 months for standard care, alongside a 70.0% objective response rate.
Objective response rate (ORR) with Enhertu was 70.0% versus 44.5% with pembrolizumab plus chemotherapy.
Median duration of response (DoR) for Enhertu was 13.4 months and 9.7 months with pembrolizumab plus chemotherapy.
At the time of analysis, the overall survival (OS) data were 46.9% mature, and no formal hypothesis testing was performed.
While there was no observed benefit in OS, varied and imbalanced subsequent therapy patterns between arms may limit the interpretation of this result.
Imbalances include greater use of HER2-directed therapies in the pembrolizumab plus chemotherapy arm versus the Enhertu arm (48.0% vs 23.3%) and limited use of subsequent immunotherapy plus chemotherapy in the Enhertu arm (23.8%).
Mixed Phase 3 Outcome In Breast Cancer
On Friday, the company shared topline results from the SERENA-4 Phase 3 trial showing Etcamah paired with palbociclib did not meet its primary endpoint of progression-free survival in ER-positive, HER2-negative patients, despite numerical improvements.
Etcamah evaluation continues across the broader CAMBRIA Phase 3 development program.
Last week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted accelerated approval to Etcamah in combination with a CDK4/6 inhibitor.
The approval covers adult patients with HR-positive, HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer featuring an ESR1 mutation.
AZN Stock Price Activity: AstraZeneca shares were up 1.86% at $163.14 during premarket trading Monday, according to market data.
