Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has a message for the Senate: don't walk away from the table on crypto regulation. On Wednesday, he pushed lawmakers to approve the motion to proceed on the CLARITY Act and keep the legislative process rolling, warning that failure could undermine America's leadership in digital assets.
Bessent's argument is simple. If the U.S. can't get its act together on crypto and blockchain rules, allies and adversaries alike will read it as a "troubling signal" that Washington isn't ready to lead the future of these technologies. That's not exactly the kind of headline you want to hand to countries already racing to build their own digital asset frameworks.
This isn't the first time Bessent has voiced frustration. Last month, he criticized Senate Democrats for delaying the legislation, saying political considerations were blocking regulatory clarity for the cryptocurrency industry. He described the bill as "floor-ready" and waiting for a vote.
