Emerson Electric Co. (EMR) and Equinor ASA (EQNR) are taking their long-standing relationship to the next level. On Monday, Emerson announced a 13-year strategic collaboration to supply measurement technologies and services across Equinor's global offshore and onshore operations.
This isn't a small, one-off purchase order. It's a frame agreement, which means it sets the terms for ongoing work over more than a decade, with options to extend further. The deal builds on an existing automation partnership and is designed to help Equinor squeeze more out of its energy assets.
More Than Just Meters
Under the agreement, Emerson will provide measurement instrumentation, analytical technologies, and lifecycle services. The goal is to help Equinor speed up project development, extend the life of its fields, and improve how much oil and gas it can recover from the ground.
But it's not just about hardware. The companies also plan to standardize operations across Equinor's global footprint and work together on technology innovation and digital operations. Think of it as a partnership that goes beyond buying and selling, into co-developing how things get done.
This isn't a new relationship. Emerson and Equinor have been working together for over 40 years. Equinor already uses Emerson tech in several key areas, including subsea multiphase flow meters, downhole monitoring systems, valves, emissions management systems, and control systems. So this deal is more about deepening an existing bond than starting a new one.
Looking to 2035
The expanded partnership is also tied to Equinor's Norwegian Continental Shelf 2035 initiatives. That's a big deal for the energy company, as it looks to optimize production and improve reliability across its assets.
"Emerson has been a trusted technology supplier to Equinor for more than four decades," said Slawomir Suchomski, President of Emerson Europe. He noted that Emerson's measurement technology will help Equinor optimize production, improve reliability, and support safe and efficient operations globally.
The companies say this collaboration strengthens their existing digitalization efforts and focuses on long-term operational performance. In other words, it's about making sure Equinor's operations run smoothly and efficiently for years to come.
Price Action: Equinor shares were down 1.07% at $42.40, while Emerson Electric shares were up 0.22% at $157.61 during premarket trading on Monday.
