Advanced Micro Devices Inc. AMD is having a good morning. Shares climbed more than 3% in Tuesday's premarket session as investors waded back into large-cap tech and AI names, just hours before the chipmaker is set to report its quarterly earnings.
The broader market is lending a hand too. Nasdaq futures are up 0.70%, while S&P 500 futures have gained 0.12%, giving the whole semiconductor sector a bit of a tailwind.
Earnings in Focus
AMD is scheduled to drop its fiscal second-quarter 2026 results after the bell on Tuesday. The Street is looking for earnings of $1.55 per share, a big jump from the 48 cents it posted a year ago. Revenue is expected to climb to $11.28 billion, up from $7.68 billion in the same quarter last year.
The stock carries a consensus Buy rating, with analysts slapping an average price target of $581.86 on it. Recent analyst moves have been constructive. Susquehanna raised its price target to $500 on July 30, while Mizuho and Wedbush bumped theirs to $625 and $600, respectively, on July 27.
Technical Setup
Tuesday's pop seems more about improving risk appetite than any company-specific news ahead of earnings. The rebound comes after AMD slipped below its short-term moving averages and approached a key support level near $498.
Despite the recent pullback, the longer-term picture still looks solid. The stock has gained 174.15% over the past 12 months and continues to trade well above its 100-day simple moving average of $402.92 and its 200-day simple moving average of $313.16.
That said, AMD is still 1.9% below its 20-day simple moving average of $511.69 and 2.2% below its 50-day simple moving average of $512.95. That suggests the stock is in a consolidation phase after a strong run.
The relative strength index sits at 46.69, which points to neutral momentum. In plain English, buyers and sellers are pretty balanced right now, so nearby support and resistance levels matter more than momentum signals. Support is around $498, with resistance at $561.50.
MarketDash Edge Rankings
AMD continues to score well on MarketDash Edge metrics, with Momentum at 98.02, Growth at 97.26, and Quality at 92.16. Its Value score, however, is a weak 4, reflecting the stock's premium valuation with a price-to-earnings ratio of 161.5.
ETF Exposure
AMD is a heavyweight in several semiconductor and AI-focused exchange-traded funds, including the iShares Semiconductor ETF SOXX, the ARK Next Generation Internet ETF ARKW, and the Dan Ives Wedbush AI Revolution ETF IVES. That means fund flows into or out of these ETFs can move AMD shares, sometimes in ways that have little to do with the company itself.
AMD Stock Price Activity: Advanced Micro Devices shares were up 3.21% at $500.20 during premarket trading on Tuesday, according to market data.
