Marvell Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:MRVL) shares took a hit on Monday, sliding more than 3% as investors decided to cash in some gains from the stock's impressive 12-month rally. The pullback came even as the Nasdaq climbed 0.70% and the S&P 500 rose 0.91%, making Marvell's decline stand out in a generally upbeat market.

AI Infrastructure Focus
On the company front, Marvell announced it will showcase its AI memory and storage infrastructure portfolio at FMS 2026, which runs from Aug. 4 to Aug. 6 in Santa Clara, California. The company says the rise of agentic AI workloads is driving up demand for memory capacity, bandwidth, and connectivity. Marvell's technologies are designed to bring data closer to compute, cut latency, and boost AI infrastructure efficiency.
At the event, Marvell will demo several products, including its PCIe 6.0 enterprise SSD controller, CXL memory and switching solutions, the Octeon DPU for network storage, and Photonic Fabric technology for optical scale-up. Executives will also take part in keynote presentations and panel discussions. Mark Kuemerle, vice president of technology for CCS Architecture, is slated to deliver a keynote on Aug. 5 titled "The Accidental Architecture of AI."
Technical Picture Weakens
Monday's decline looks more like technical selling than a fundamental shift in sentiment. While the broader market advanced, Marvell remained below its key short-term moving averages. The stock is trading about 10% below its 20-day simple moving average of $203.11 and roughly 24% below its 50-day SMA of $239.36. It's also about 2% below its 100-day SMA of $186.34, making that level a key area for traders watching for signs of stabilization.
Momentum indicators are also looking soft. The MACD is below its signal line, and the histogram remains negative, suggesting that bullish momentum is fading. That said, the longer-term trend is still intact, especially since the 50-day SMA crossed above the 200-day SMA back in October 2025. A key support level to watch is around $178.
Earnings And Analyst Outlook
Investors are also looking ahead to Marvell's next earnings report, expected on Aug. 27. Wall Street is forecasting earnings of 87 cents per share, up from 67 cents a year earlier, on revenue of $2.70 billion, compared with $2.01 billion last year. The stock trades at about 64.5 times earnings, reflecting its premium valuation.
Despite the recent pullback, analysts remain bullish. The stock carries a consensus Buy rating with an average price target of $270.83. Recent analyst actions include:
- KeyBanc: Overweight, raised price target to $400 on July 14.
- RBC Capital Markets: Outperform, maintained $360 price target on July 7.
- UBS: Buy, raised price target to $340 on June 29.
MarketDash Edge Ratings
Marvell scores highly on momentum and growth metrics, with a Momentum score of 98.02 and a Growth score of 99.73, reflecting strong long-term earnings expectations. However, its Value score of 2.07 suggests the shares remain expensive relative to peers. That combination points to a high-growth stock that could stay volatile while investors reassess near-term momentum.
ETF Exposure
Marvell is also a meaningful holding in several semiconductor-focused exchange-traded funds, including the Invesco PHLX Semiconductor ETF (SOXQ), First Trust Nasdaq Semiconductor ETF (FTXL), and Fidelity Disruptive Technology ETF (FDTX). Fund inflows and outflows can influence demand for the stock, so it's worth keeping an eye on those flows.
MRVL Stock Price Activity: Marvell Technology shares were down 3.06% at $181.82 at the time of publication on Monday.
