XPeng Inc. (XPEV) had a decent July, even if the numbers don't scream "wow." The electric vehicle maker delivered 38,027 cars last month, up 4% from a year earlier. That brings cumulative worldwide deliveries to over 1.2 million vehicles as of July 31. Not bad for a company that's been around for just over a decade.
The more interesting story is where XPeng is headed. At a July 16 event in Munich, the company unveiled its L03 global model, which it plans to launch in 65 countries and regions this year. That's a big bet on international growth, and it doesn't stop there. XPeng also said it will introduce five new models in Australia during the second half of 2026, while expanding its local sales and service network.
On the technology front, XPeng's NGP intelligent-driving system, powered by its internally developed VLA 2.0 model, is set to begin a global rollout in 2027. That's the kind of timeline that suggests the company is thinking long-term, not just about next quarter's numbers.
How XPeng's Peers Are Doing
XPeng's July delivery volume actually led its two main Chinese EV rivals. NIO Inc. (NIO) delivered 35,934 vehicles in July, up 71% year over year, with year-to-date deliveries up 68% to 227,057. Li Auto Inc. (LI) delivered 30,468 vehicles during the month, while launching the new Li L6 and expanding overseas.
So XPeng beat both in raw volume, but its growth rate was far more modest than NIO's. That's worth keeping in mind: volume leadership is nice, but momentum matters too.
ETFs With Notable XPeng Exposure
For investors who like to watch the plumbing of the market, XPeng has a meaningful presence in at least one ETF: the Direxion Daily Electric and Autonomous Vehicles Bull 2X Shares (EVAV), where it carries a 4.19% weight. That means any significant inflows or outflows into that fund will likely force automatic buying or selling of XPeng shares, which can create some interesting price dynamics.
As for the stock itself, XPeng shares were down 3.46% at $12.55 during premarket trading on Monday, according to market data.
