Oracle (Oracle (ORCL)) shares are getting a nice lift in premarket trading Friday, thanks to a massive defense contract that's giving buyers a reason to step in even as the broader market mood is only mildly positive. S&P 500 futures are up about 0.3%, providing a supportive backdrop, but the real story here is a nearly $7 billion, 10-year deal with the Pentagon.

$7 Billion Defense Contract Matters
The U.S. Defense Department awarded Oracle a 10-year enterprise software agreement valued at up to $6.99 billion, negotiated by the Department of the Navy. It's the first direct award contract covering the department's on-premises Oracle usage. The initial five-year term is worth $3.31 billion, with options that could bring the total to nearly $7 billion. The Pentagon says the deal consolidates licensing, improves visibility into usage and spending, and is expected to generate at least $441 million in taxpayer savings. For Oracle, it's a big win that expands its footprint in defense and streamlines how the government buys its software.
Oracle Stock: Critical Levels To Watch
Even with the contract headline, the longer-term chart is still in what you might call "repair mode." The stock is down 50.57% over the past 12 months and trades 34.8% below its 200-day moving average—a clear sign the primary trend remains bearish. It's also 29% below its 50-day SMA, and the 50-day remains below the 200-day following a death cross back in January. Not exactly a pretty picture.
But here's where it gets interesting: momentum. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) is at 29.08, which is oversold territory. That often means selling pressure has gotten stretched, and conditions could be setting up for a bounce if buyers can defend nearby lows. Of course, oversold doesn't automatically mean "bottom," and the stock's recent swing low in July keeps the focus on whether price can build a base rather than just snap back briefly.
From a levels perspective, the stock is sitting close to the bottom of its 52-week range ($119.44 to $345.72). That can attract dip-buyers, but it also raises the risk of breakdowns if support fails. A practical "trend check" for any rebound attempt is whether price can start reclaiming short-term averages like the 20-day SMA, which it's currently 9.9% below.
- Key Resistance: $136.28 — aligns with the 20-day SMA, a common first hurdle in oversold rebound attempts
- Key Support: $119.44 — the 52-week low zone, the most immediate downside reference
Oracle Earnings Preview: What Analysts Expect for September 2026
Looking ahead, the next major catalyst for the stock is the earnings report expected around September 8, 2026. Here's what analysts are forecasting:
- EPS Estimate: $1.67 (up from $1.47 year-over-year)
- Revenue Estimate: $19.12 billion (up from $14.93 billion year-over-year)
- Valuation: P/E of 20.6x, which suggests a fair valuation relative to peers
Analyst Consensus & Recent Actions: The stock carries a Buy rating with an average price target of $260.04, based on 50 analysts with targets ranging from $145 to $400. Recent moves include:
- CLSA: Initiated with Hold, target $145 (July 20)
- Bernstein: Outperform, raised target to $325 (June 11)
- RBC Capital: Sector Perform, maintains target $190 (June 11)
Oracle (ORCL) ETF Exposure: Key Funds to Watch
Oracle's hefty weighting in several ETFs means fund flows can move the stock. Key funds include:
- iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF (IGV): 5.87% weight
- First Trust NASDAQ Technology Dividend Index Fund (TDIV): 9.82% weight
- Pacer Data and Digital Revolution ETF (TRFK): 7.57% weight
Because ORCL carries such heavy weight in these funds, any significant inflows or outflows will likely force automatic buying or selling of the stock.
ORCL Price Action: Oracle shares were up 2.24% at $122.72 in premarket trading Friday. The stock is trading near its 52-week low of $119.44.
