President Donald Trump said the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool will be drained after the July 4 celebrations for repairs, while also announcing plans to redevelop Washington, D.C.'s East Potomac Golf Links into a championship-caliber public course.

Trump Announces Reflecting Pool Repairs

On Sunday, in a Truth Social post, Trump said he toured several monuments, fountains and public spaces across the nation's capital, claiming many had been restored after years of vandalism and neglect.

"The Reflecting Pool is now in full use after suffering great damage from Criminal, Radical Left Vandals, people that truly hate our Country," Trump wrote.

He alleged vandals cut and tore the pool's waterproof liner, adding, "Right after July 4th, when we will drain the water to treat the damage caused by these 'animals,' it will again be in perfect shape."

Trump also said algae had been removed, damaged grass would soon be replaced and Lafayette Park had been restored except for some original paving stones.

The president also announced plans to redevelop East Potomac Golf Links, describing the public course as "virtually unplayable" because of deteriorating greens, dead grass, broken irrigation and hazardous trees.

He said golf course architect Tom Fazio and his son, Gavin Fazio, would lead the redesign.

"We will build one of the Greatest Golf Courses anywhere in the World," Trump wrote, adding that the public course would be capable of hosting events including the U.S. Open, Ryder Cup and PGA Championship.

He said construction is scheduled to begin on Sept. 1.

Trump Says Suspects Arrested

Previously, Trump said multiple suspects had been arrested in connection with alleged vandalism at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and said those involved could face "years in jail."

Democrats Criticize Trump Over Pool Spending

Earlier, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) called the project a "reflecting pool debacle," arguing that Trump focused on a vanity effort while Americans struggled with rising living costs.

Gov. JB Pritzker (D-Ill) said Trump was distracted by the pool while Americans faced high gas prices, calling it a sign of misplaced focus.

Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) criticized a $13.1 million no-bid contract linked to the renovation, saying it reflected broader broken promises and costly government spending.
