Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) took a sharp jab at President Donald Trump on Wednesday, arguing that the administration’s deal with Iran is a one-sided affair that hands Tehran a financial windfall while the U.S. gets little in return.
In a post on X, Schiff didn’t hold back. “Giving Iran a great financial boon it hasn’t enjoyed in decades, without getting anything in return,” he wrote. The California senator added a zinger: “If there is an art to the deal, it looks distinctly Iranian.”
Schiff’s comments came after U.S. and Iranian representatives held talks mediated by Qatari and Pakistani officials. The deal includes a temporary 60-day general license for Iranian oil production and exports, confirmed by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Schiff shared a screenshot of a news headline reporting the waiver, making his point clear.
The agreement also gives Iran access to $300 billion in reconstruction funds and includes the release of some frozen Iranian assets. Critics argue this is a massive infusion of cash for a country that has been under heavy sanctions.
