Hunter Biden: Authenticity Over Caution
Hunter Biden took to X on Wednesday to share his thoughts on the New York races, making clear he's not a candidate himself but has plenty of advice for those who are.
"I'm not running for office," Biden wrote, before laying out what he sees as the key lessons. His main argument: voters are rewarding candidates who show genuine conviction over those who rely on focus-group-tested messaging. Candidates who tackled issues like housing affordability and the war in Gaza head-on outperformed those who tried to stake out the middle ground.
"The middle is not a strategy. It's an empty room," Biden wrote, adding that voters are "tired of being managed" and want leaders willing to fight for their beliefs. He summed it up with a line that could become a campaign slogan: "The Democrats who ran from their own voters lost. The ones who ran toward them won."
Bernie Sanders: A Win for the Working Class
Senator Bernie Sanders echoed many of those themes, framing the results as a rejection of "status quo politics." He pointed to victories by progressive candidates like Brad Lander, Claire Valdez, and Darializa Avila Chevalier as proof that grassroots organizing can overcome well-funded opposition.
"Last night showed that when working people stand together, organize, and fight back, they can defeat establishment politicians and enormous amounts of money and political influence," Sanders said. He also took aim at billionaire-backed groups, including super PACs tied to cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence, urging Democrats to focus on bold policies around housing, health care, child care, and economic inequality.
Trump: A Warning About 'Communists'
President Trump offered a very different take. After several candidates backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani secured primary victories, Trump took to Truth Social to sound the alarm. "America the Beautiful will NEVER be a Communist Country!!!" he wrote. He later claimed Mamdani had helped elect "3 solid Communists," while also touting his own endorsement record in Republican primaries.
The clash of interpretations highlights a broader struggle within the Democratic Party—and between parties—over what voters actually want. For now, New York's primaries have given everyone a talking point.
