Shares of VNET Group, Inc. (VNET) are having a strong day on Wednesday, following news that a pair of strategic investors are buying into the company in a big way.
The stock's jump comes after VNET announced that PJ Millennium I Limited and PJ Millennium II Limited have signed a share purchase agreement to acquire nearly 650 million shares at roughly $1.44 per share, which works out to $8.69 per American Depositary Share (ADS). The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, pending shareholder approval.
Once completed, the buyers will hold about 38.1% of VNET's total issued shares. That's a big enough stake to have a meaningful say in where the company goes from here. As of December 31, VNET had $941.1 million in cash, equivalents, restricted cash, and short-term investments.
Interim CEO Josh Sheng Chen said: "Looking ahead, we will work closely with our strategic partners to deepen collaboration across technology and supply chains, and to jointly advance original, end-to-end innovation across the next generation of the AIDC industry."
While VNET's news is clearly company-specific, broader markets are mixed today. The Russell 2000 is down 0.33%, and the S&P 500 is barely up 0.04%. So the gains here are all about VNET's own story.
Technical Analysis
VNET's current price of $11.60 is well above its 20-day simple moving average (SMA) of $8.83, a sign of bullish momentum. The stock is trading 28.9% above that average. The relative strength index (RSI) sits at 53.01, which is neutral territory — not overbought, not oversold. That suggests there's still room for the stock to run higher without an immediate pullback.
Key Support: $9.04 — aligns with the 50-day SMA, providing a potential floor.
Key Resistance: $12.00 — a nearby level where rebounds could stall.
